More signs of difficulty for the forest industry in Northwestern
Ontario.
Weyerhaeuser has announced the I-level Timberstrand Mill in Kenora
will be taking 3-weeks of downtime this Fall.
Spokesperson Sarah Goodman says its too early to say if any additional
downtime will be needed later this year.
There will be no layoffs as a result of the downtime.
Instead, employees will be carrying out maintenance at the Mill in
September.
Meantime, About 200-people turned up for an information picket in front of the
Abitibi-Consolidated Newsprint Mill in Kenora Wednesday.
Even though the Mill has been closed down for the past year, Union
leaders have raised new concerns about the companies plans for the property.
The picketers don’t want Abitibi to remove any equipment from the
mill site.
