It appears the Northwestern Health Unit smoke-free campaign is paying
off.
A new survey indicates 16.4% of the population in the Region was
exposed to second-hand smoke in public places last year, compared to
24.5% in 2003.
In the Region, 12% of non-smokers said that someone lit up
inside their homes and 64% had restrictions in place.
The survey also suggests Northwestern Ontario residents eat and drink
more then the rest of Canadians.
23.4% of adults living in the Region are obese and 39.1% are over-weight.
28.6% are considered heavy drinkers compared to the National
average of 21.8%.
