MNR Conducting Prescribed Burns

The Ministry of Natural Resources is still at work even though it’s highly unlikely we will see any new fires before the end of the season on October 31st.
The MNR has ignited three prescribed burns in the Red Lake and Sioux Lookout districts.
Scott Wiseman says the fire range in size from 200-hectares to 620-hectares.
Wiseman says the goals of the prescribed burns are ecosystem renewal, the reduction of hazardous forest fuels and the creation and protection of the Woodland Caribou habitat.
He notes the burns also make it safer for firefighters if a major fire sparked in the bush.
Wiseman says the fires should be out shortly thanks to the damp and cold weather.
