MNR Fire Crews Head South Of The Border

The Ministry of Natural Resources is sending 108 fire personnel state-side.

Fire ranger crews, a fire behavior analyst and agency representatives are flying out to Missoula, Montana today to battle wildfires there.

There is a state of emergency in place in 40 counties in Montana due to the forest fire situation there.

In the meantime, Ontario continues to supply fire hose, sprinkler kits, pumps and chainsaws to Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. as they deal with their on-going forest fire situation.

At home, just two new forest fires yesterday, both in the Thunder Bay District.

One is Thunder Bay Fire Number 47 which is 1 hectare and is being held near Lac Du Milieu.

The other one is Thunder Bay Fire Number 46 which is smaller and under control and only 0.1 hectares near Buck Lake.

The forest fire hazard is moderate to high in the southern sectors and low in the northern sectors of the Northwest region.
