With hunting season underway in most of the region, Minister of Natural Resources Bill Mauro is speaking about his province’s current moose program.
Mauro says an aerial survey was conducted last winter and it showed moose numbers were down so the province reduced hunting tags.
The aerial survey showed notable decreases in the Dryden, Thunder Bay and Fort Frances districts.
Mauro says he’s had good conversations with hunters and reviewing data from the surveys.
Mauro notes the MNR is looking at possible changes to its moose hunting program.
That could include possible changes to tag allocations as well as adjusting seasons.
Mauro thinks they should be able to announce some changes later this year.
