The Ministry of Natural Resources Office embarked on a survey this summer to try and track the range and numbers of the elusive Eastern Whip Poor Will bird in the region.
The MNR says the bird can be found in the Kenora and Red Lake area, but its numbers are hard to calculate because they mostly come out at night.
The Easter Whip Poor Will is also considered a species at risk as its habitat is slowly disappearing.
Staff went out in the evening to count the number of bird calls to get a better idea of their range roosts.
The MNR is asking the public to help out by reporting any sightings to the Kenora District office.
