Christmas Cheer volunteers have been forced to make changes to their food hamper program this year.
Coordinator for Dryden Peggy Howard says they will continue to support the community in the safest way possible, while protecting volunteers and the families they serve, in light of COVID-19.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the Adopt A Family program. In order to reduce risk we will not be accepting food and toy donations this year and that’s for this year only. We’re accepting monetary donations. Gift cards will replace food hampers this year.”
It’s organizers hope that gift cards will be able to replace the toys and gifts the program usually doles out every year, but Howard says that will depend on the amount of donations received.
“The pandemic has created an increase in financial challenges for individuals and families. We’re anticipating an even greater need this holiday season. Our community needs the Christmas Cheer program now more than ever and we can’t meet those needs without you.”
To make a donation there are several contactless options this year.
- Drop off at the Christmas Cheer Drop Box at the Community Support Centre NW-53 Arthur Street in Dryden
- By mail t0 53 Arthur Street Dryden, On P8N 1J7 (cheques payable to Christmas Cheer)
- Interact E-Transfer to cheer@drytel.net (no password required)
If you would like a charitable receipt, you’re asked to include your name and mailing address with your donation.
Applications for families and individuals in need are expected to open by November 9.
