The Municipality of Red Lake and all of northwestern Ontario are mourning the loss of Mayor Phil Vinet.
Vinet lost his battle with cancer Tuesday.
He was 69.
The popular and inspirational municipal leader was in his third term as Mayor.
Vinet was known as a true advocate for the Red Lake area and all of northwestern Ontario on the local, national and international stage.
He dedicated his time to ensure the needs and opportunities of the north were centre stage at Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill.
Vinet was also well known across the region as a talented baseball player at a younger age, leading several teams to victory.
He made sure recreational and sporting opportunities were readily available for youth in the Red Lake area.
