Multiple Charges And Warnings In Enforcement Blitz

A two day Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry enforcement blitz at the junction of Highway 502 and Highway 11 has resulted in 53-charges and 41-warnings.

The road check station was set up on June 22nd and 23rd and conservation officers stopped just over 2,000 anglers from Canada and the United States.

Part of the campaign was to educate the public on the adverse effects of invasive species and overharvesting.

Charges were issued for packaging fish so they couldn’t be easily counted or identified, transporting live fish, over-limit of walleye and northern pike and failing to stop for a conservation officer.

Two other investigations continue.

Roughly 150-pounds of fish fillets were seized during the operation.

Warnings were issued for failing to carry a licence, keeping more fish than allowed by a licence and improper packaging and labelling of fish.
