NAN Calling for Residential School Cash

Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler is calling on
the Feds to fulfil the former Liberal Government’s agreement to expedite
compensation payments to Residential School Survivors.
Fiddler says they believed it was a done deal, and notes his main
concern is that NAN is losing survivors each passing day.
Earlier this week, Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice said the
Conservatives will not honour the deal until its officialy approved in
court.
Of the 5,000 residential school survivors in NAN territory,
about 1,000 are over the age of 65.
