The final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is being welcomed by the Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
Deputy Grand Chief Terry Waboose says they’re encouraged the prime minister has committed to implementing all 94 of the recommendations.
Waboose says the report finally exposes the truth behind the government’s assimilation program that was nothing short of what he calls “cultural genocide”.
He calls the event a “sad legacy of their history that has to be righted”.
Waboose notes the release of the report is the start of the healing process.
