The New Democrats are demanding immediate Federal and Provincial action to deal with the Forest jobs crisis in Northern Ontario.
MPP’s and MP’s held a Press Conference in Thunder Bay Monday to ask for Government help.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton says if the Provincial and Federal Governments can afford a multi-billion dollar bailout plan for the auto industry, they can afford a plan to help the battered forest industry.
The NDP Leader has introduced a 4-point plan to sustain jobs and provide assistance for workers facing job losses.
He says one measure is a Federal Loan Guarantee program for forest companies.
Hampton is also calling for an industrial hydro rate, appointment of a Jobs Protection Commissioner and an overhaul of the Employment Insurance Program.
