The provincial NDP are sounding off on the state of long term care in Northwestern Ontario.
Leader Andrea Horwath says the system here at home is way behind southern Ontario.
Horwath says seniors are faced with huge waiting lists, noting some people have been waiting more than 1,000 days for a spot in a long term care home.
She adds if they do find space, they could be relocated to a facility that is miles away from their hometown.
Horwath says seniors aren’t getting the support and care that they need to live in dignity in their aging years.
She notes staff try to do the best they can, but there needs to be more people hired to help out.
Horwath is suggesting an inquiry looking into the problems facing home care for seniors.
