The federal NDP is demanding support for northern First Nations communities.
In the Parliament, Carol Hughes stressed the government isn’t doing enough to help Kashechewan and Shoal Lake.
Hughes says the Conservatives response to emergencies is always “too little to late”.
The northeastern Ontario MP notes Shoal Lake has been under a boil water advisory for 17-years and stresses a long term solution is needed.
She adds the community needs a year-round road and potable water.
Hughes says residents are also stranded as the ferry connecting them to the mainland failed a Transport Canada inspection.
She also pointed to the situation in Kashechewan and the constant flooding in the remote northern First Nation.
