NDP On The Attack In Support Of Area First Nations

Ontario Environmental Commissioner Diane Saxe says after more than 60-years, the mercury problem at Grassy Narrows First Nation is getting worse, not better.

The provincial NDP are jumping all over the Commissioner’s report that states the government has “long turned a blind eye” to pollution that adversely affects many Indigenous communities.

Environment and Climate Change critic Peter Tabuns says the Liberals have been in power for 14-years, yet the Premier has failed to treat First Nations with priority, effort or expense.

Tabuns says it’s time for Kathleen Wynne to listen to the Environmental Commissioner and stop failing First Nations.

He stresses the government has to do a lot more to protect Indigenous communities in the north.

Tabuns adds the current conditions wouldn’t be tolerated elsewhere in Ontario.
