New Police Chief Anxious To Get Started

A long list of priorities for the incoming Chief of Police in Dryden.

Doug Palson says first thing first is getting to know the organization, the staff and the community.

Palson plans to immediately forge ties with community groups, city departments, the business community and service groups.

He says that’s what policing is all about.

Palson notes being stationed in one spot will allow him to build a very strong team.

Palson is currently responsible for six different First Nations communities in southern Manitoba as Chief of the Dakota Ojibway Police Service.

He believes that experience will help him here.

Palson says it’s really about mutual trust and respect regardless of what a persons ethniticity is.

He also spent 20-years years with the Brandon Police Service.

Palson says he selected Dryden because he wanted to get back into a municipal policing environment.

He adds he had his eye on the position when Chief Rob Davis announced his departure and notes his family loves northern Ontario.

Palson begins his new duties next month.
