New Seniors Housing Units Approved For Dryden

The Kenora District Services Board has received the go-ahead to move forward with plans to build a new 40 unit seniors housing complex in Dryden.

The complex will be on the far east side of the former Pinewood School property, behind the Homeward Bound housing and childcare unit for single Indigenous mothers.

Roger Valley is the City representative on the KDSB and he says they are ready and funded, noting they now have to fill out some paperwork and get the property re-zoned.

Valley says the reconstructed building has been re-zoned, but the rest of the property isn’t right now.

He stresses the announcement is great for the entire community.

Valley says this will give an opportunity to have top quality locations in Dryden and prove that the City is a hub for the service sector.

He notes the KDSB has found that the housing crisis in this community is larger for seniors.
