A million dollars in Northern Ontario Heritage Fund money is going towards a new tele-learning experience with Lakehead University.
Students in Sioux Lookout and Kenora will now be able to attend first year University classes from their home communities.
LU President Brian Stevenson says it allows them to reach out to remote students.
Stevenson says it will take eight to ten months to get the satellite classrooms on-line and they hope to start offering the program next Fall or Summer.
The life-size screens will allow students to feel as though they are present in the classroom by supporting communication, providing access to interactive functions such as touch-screens, and reducing travel costs.
The new technology is a partnership between Lakehead University, Confederation College and the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
