New Tool For Public And Police Safety

Officers with the Dryden Police Service will soon be equipped with Narcan Nasal Spray.

The prescription medicine blocks the effects of opioids and reverses an overdose.

Chief Doug Palson says it has become a new tool for police in Canada in the fight against Fentanyl abuse.

Palson says it’s unfortunate in this day that they have to have a tool like this, however if they can use it to save a life than it’s a good thing.

Palson says there is little training required, but they will be bringing someone in from Public Health to educate their members.

He believes there will be no cost to the Service with the implementation of the new tool.

A new study shows more than two people each day are dying of opioid overdoses in Ontario and the rate of opioid-related deaths in the province has almost quadrupled over the last 25-years.
