New Training Centre Coming To Confederation College

Confederation College expects a new training hub will be up and running by the fall of 2018.

As was announced in the province’s 2016 budget, the school is on the receiving end of $7-million to get the ball rolling.

President Jim Madder says the money will be used to bring apprenticeship, trades and technology programs under one roof.

Madder says the whole project is in the order of $20-million and they are looking to work with the federal government to find the rest of the funding.

Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle says the centre will support good technology and trades jobs in northern Ontario.

He adds the innovative workshop and laboratory space will expand training opportunities and help develop an employment-ready workforce for the region.

Gravelle says students will be able to develop diverse skills they need to compete for jobs in Ontario’s manufacturing, technology and resource sectors.
