NOMA Calling For Train Speed Changes

The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association wants to see trains move slower through area communities.

The federal government recently announced trains will have to slow their trains down to 40-miles an hour but NOMA would like to see it at 30.

President Dave Canfield feels rail companies should be supportive of the move.

He says the move would improve safety and lower the risk of a derailment.

Canfield says trains go slower in larger municipalities but often go faster through the built up sections of small rural communities.
