Norseman Monument Now Being Dismantled

A local monument has been freed from its mount after 26-years of service overlooking Howey Bay in Red Lake.

Highway 105 Tourism and Marketing Board spokesperson Duane Riddell says the Norseman has landed safely and is now being dismantled for repair.

Goldcorp donated a crane to remove the plane.

Three different groups will now work on the airplane and they hope to have it back on its original mount in one years time.

The plane was severely damaged in a hail storm last July.

Riddell says fundraising continues but notes it has so far been successful, with donations coming in from across Canada,

The first target is $45,000 and Riddell says they are about $10,000 short of their goal.

The final fundraising target is $125,000.

Riddell is also thanking Jesse Clayfield, Vito Tarantino and Jared Lafontain for their support.
