Northern Communities Want Wood Heat Program Revived

The Doug Ford government is being asked to reverse its decision to end the Wood Heat Pilot Program.

Sioux Lookout and Wawa are both speaking out against the move as they relied on the program to help residents who don’t have access to natural gas.

Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance says they are currently at a disadvantage considering a majority of the community’s tax base is shouldered by residential tax payers.

Wawa Mayor Ron Rody says the program was supporting local businesses, creating new jobs and building economic development opportunities.

He points out that they had already received 25 applications for assistance. (File Photo)
