A Northern Ontario MPP is asking Nishnawbe-Aski Nation members to
band together to push for the passage of Bill 97.
Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson has organized a reception at Queens
Park on April 6th that will allow NAN to meet with the McGuinty
Liberals.
Bisson says this will give First Nation leaders an opportunity to
lobby the Government to move ahead with the Revenue Sharing Act.
Bisson notes they need to find a way to move forward with business
development while protecting treaty rights.
He adds both levels of Government have done a terrible job over
the century in dealing with aboriginal issues and he believes Bill 97 will
finally honor treaty commitments.
Bisson says the Bill is stuck in Committee right now.
