Schools in northern and rural Ontario are under-serviced compared to their counterparts in large urban centres.
Annie Kidder is the Executive Director with People For Education and says a survey of principals from all provincial schools finds there really is a two tiered system in place.
Kidder says northern schools have much less access to specialized teachers and services such as music, psychologists, guidance councillors and even Phys Ed teachers.
She adds students who go to school in northern Ontario shouldn’t be disadvantaged because of where they live and suggests the Ministry of Education needs to revise its funding formula.
