The decision by Ear Falls Council to establish a smoke-free bylaw is being praised by the health promoter of the Northwestern Health Unit.
Jennifer McKibbon says she credits council for taking the initiative on such a big issue.
McKibbon says she is elated by the move and adds she is pleased that council has decided to protect its residents from second-hand smoke.
She adds other communities will be encouraged to take the lead of Ear Falls but she says the final decision will lie in the hands of municipal leaders.
