Nuclear Repository Sites Narrowed Down

The Township of Ignace has moved on to the second phase of a study to establish a host site for used nuclear fuel.
Nuclear Waste Management Organization Spokesperson Michael Krizanc says the next step is a more intensive public review.
He says the review will involve outside communities and First Nations.
Krizanc notes they will be conducting aerial surveys, field work and drilling.
He says they have to ensure everything meets safety and technical requirements.
Krizanc says there’s no timeline attached to the second phase as they want to make sure everything is done right.
Schreiber is the only other northern community to advance to the second phase.
Ear Falls didn’t advance to the next round
Krizanc notes the decision was based on a number of assessments done on a social, safety and technical level.
