Emilie “Millie” Lina Lang

January 23, 1930 – May 21, 2026

It is with deep sadness that the family of Emilie “Millie” Lina Lang announces her passing on May 21, 2026, at the age of 96 following complications from a stroke.

Millie was born on January 23, 1930, in Reutlingen, Germany. Orphaned at a young age, she endured the hardships of wartime Germany with remarkable resilience and strength — qualities that would remain with her throughout her life.

In the early 1950s, she married the love of her life, Karl Lang. Together they began building a future centered on hard work, family, and perseverance. Karl immigrated to Canada in 1955 to establish a new beginning for the family, and in 1956 Millie courageously followed with their two young children, arriving by ship to start a new life in Northwestern Ontario.

Approximately six months after arriving in Canada, Millie and Karl purchased their homestead in Wabigoon, Ontario, where they worked tirelessly to build a life for their growing family. Over the years they farmed, raising chickens and cattle while becoming well known members of the community.

Millie worked for many years as a butcher at Harley’s grocery store in Dryden before she and Karl built and operated Lang’s Motors in Wabigoon. The family businesses included a service station, Volkswagen dealership, motel, and the restaurant Millie proudly ran for many years, where she cooked and warmly welcomed customers and friends alike until the business was tragically destroyed by fire in 2001.

After retirement, Millie continued giving back to her community through many years of volunteering at the Dryden Regional Health Centre Tuck Shop until health challenges forced her to step away in 2020.

Millie and Karl shared a passion for gardening and took great pride in their property, often participating in Dryden Horticultural Society Garden shows. She was also a lifetime member of the Dryden Go-Getters, where she enjoyed many friendships, social events, especially music and dancing over the years.

She was known for her creativity and generosity, spending countless hours crocheting mitts and scarves for donation and creating decorative crafts and trinkets that brought warmth and character to her yard and home.

Millie was predeceased by her beloved husband Karl Lang in 2021. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Erika (Wally – deceased), her sons Karlheinz (Peggy) and Hermann (Roxine), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Millie’s life was one of perseverance, hard work, generosity, and devotion to her family, friends and community. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Remembered

When someone we love becomes a memory,

that memory becomes a treasure.

Not a treasure kept away,

but one carried every day—

in familiar places,

in shared stories,

and in the hearts of those who remember.

Though a voice may fall silent,

and a chair may sit empty,

the love that was given remains.

And so we do not say farewell.

We say thank you.

Thank you for the years,

for the lessons,

for the laughter,

and for the love.

You will be remembered.

A Life Well Lived

A life is not measured by the years alone,

but by the love that was given,

the kindness that was shared,

and the memories that remain.

Some lives leave quiet footprints,

yet their impact reaches far beyond what can be seen.

In moments of laughter,

in lessons passed down,

and in the comfort of cherished memories,

their presence continues.

Though we mourn the loss of someone dearly loved,

we are grateful for the time we shared

and the life that was lived so fully.

May we carry forward the best of what they gave us,

and find comfort in knowing

that love does not end with goodbye.
