OFIA Asking Government To Not Bow To Pressure From Environmental Groups

The Ontario Forest Industries Association says it’s worried government policies could erode the amount of land available for harvesting.

Executive Director Jamie Lim says legislation like the Endangered Species Act can have a negative impact on forestry, as can environmental groups.

She says there are still several groups trying to change the industry.

Lim has addressed the Wynne Liberals, stressing forestry is an important part of Ontario’s “green” economy through reforestation.

Lim says forestry is one of the most sustainable industries in Ontario and has tremendous potential for growth as long as the provincial government doesn’t put up more road blocks.
