OPP Costing Study Hits Yield Sign In Dryden

Dryden Council has decided to give the Dryden Police Service more time to collect information in advance to what appears to be an inevitable request for an OPP costing study. The request was made Monday night by both the Police Services Board and the Dryden Police Association and after considerable debate Council agreed to cancel a May 23rd special meeting. Board Chair Judi Green is pleased with the decision, stating they just want Council to have all of the necessary information to make an informed decision. Green believes everything Council has right now is just from an OPP perspective and notes they need time to tell their side of the story. She says you have to respect Council’s desire to move forward with a study, but stresses it’s very important in going through the process that they are comparing “apples with apples”. Green notes there’s a big difference between community policing and the integrated policing model that the OPP offers. Green adds news last week of possible OPP costing caught officers and staff off-guard and lowered moral at the detachment and she is concerned with that. Debate on the issue will now be held at the June 19th Council meeting.
