The provincial government’s new plan to transform area jails isn’t getting a lot of fan fare from the union representing guards.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union says they are cautiously optimistic.
However, officials say they do have serious concerns about the safety of frontline staff, saying the legislation doesn’t address a need for more guards.
The Legislation includes revised time limits for solitary confinement.
OPSEU is calling for some alternatives, believing keeping one inmate in one cell would solve safety concerns.
