Union reps at Confederation College are kicking off the new school year by launching another campaign to unionize part-timers.
The Ontario Public Services Employees Union wants to organize part-time support staff at Ontario colleges, a move that was blocked by the province when they tried a first time several years ago.
Timothy Humphries says the government took issue with the number of cards signed and they now know what they didn’t know before; that they’re required to get at least 35% of the workforce to sign union cards.
Humphries says getting those cards signed is job number one.
He adds signing cards is completely confidential, noting the employer will never know.
