Dryden Council will start reviewing its options at the end of the month to find a new Mayor.
Craig Nuttall’s last day on the job will be August 28th and shortly after that Council will have to declare the Mayor’s seat vacant.
Acting Chief Administrative Officer John Cummings says Council can really do anything it wants, as long as they provide clear direction to staff.
He notes the position must be filled 60-days after it’s declared vacant.
The most common choices in this situation include an appointment from within or outside, going back to previous election results or holding a by-election.
Cummings says he would be surprised if Council decided to hold a by-election to fill the seat.
If the City elects to go back to the past election, Greg Wilson came in second, while former Councillor Shayne MacKinnon finished third in the 2014 municipal election.
However, the City has once before decided to pull a name out of a hat to fill a vacant Council seat.
