Free parking will be a thing of the past at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre.
The hospital can’t cover maintenance of their parking lot with the funding they receive alone and they plan to introduce gated parking.
Chief Operating Officer Dean Osmond says the gates will work on a ticket based system and there will be three pay stations near each entrance.
Osmond notes the fee structure hasn’t been determined as of yet, but notes they will be at a reasonable rate and comply with provincial rules.
He stresses all revenue collected will be spent on parking lot maintenance to ensure it’s safe for everyone.
Osmond also says the construction may cause some traffic delays, but vehicle access to emergency room services will be unaffected.
Contractors are expected to be on-site over the next few months.
