Ontario Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Lisa McLeod says no oversight will be lost with the elimination of the Ontario Child Advocate position.
In fact, McLeod says the system will be strengthened.
McLeod says the Ontario Ombudsman’s Office will be taking over the responsibility.
She notes the office investigated over 367-complaints about Children Aid Societies last year.
McLeod says the Ombudsman is the appropriate person to make sure the province has protections in place for youth, whether they are in care or in custody.
The NDP have been grilling McLeod over the announcement which was made last week in the Fall Economic Statement.
