Poli-Sci Prof Sceptical Of NAFTA Talks

A Lakehead University political scientist doesn’t believe any changes negotiated in the North American Free Trade Agreement, will ever become law.

Laure Paquette says NAFTA negotiations will take time to complete, and thinks the amendments President Trump wants, will fall victim to American politics.

She is adamant President Trump’s credibility will be so low, American lawmakers will reject what was negotiated.

Paquette notes though, the changes the Americans want aren’t as bad as they could have been pointing to the demand to abolish the system used to settle trade disputes, which she calls unreasonable.

She says all world trade treaties have conflict resolution mechanisms built in.
