Province Investing In First Nations Development

16 regional projects are being funded by the province through the Aboriginal Economic Development Fund.

Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer says organizations and communities will share just over $2-million.

Zimmer says the money is aimed at raising the skill level of the funding recipients.

He notes the Liberals have allocated $25-million over three years for economic development for First Nations communities and organizations.

Kasabonika First Nation will use $199,000 over two years to establish a resource development organization that will promote First Nations businesses in the mining industry.

Sandy Lake First Nation is using $74,000 to conduct a feasibility study for an art gallery and office rental space in the community.

Bimose Tribal Council will use $500,000 over two years to partner with local private companies and Confederation College to support opportunities in the forestry sector.

Matawa First Nations Management is getting $99,000 to develop a long term tourism plan.
