The Provincial Government is investing in the long term stability of
a Northwestern Ontario Aboriginal Youth Development Program.
$323,000 will be spent on the forestry and firefighting
course offered by Confederation College in Dryden, Upsala and Kapuskasing.
The program teaches woodlands operations and firefighting skills.
Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro says their goal is to give First
Nation youth the chance to gain experience in the industrial sector.
Mauro adds it’s a great way to curb the out-migration of local youth.
The program also encourages aboriginal students to pursue post-secondary education opportunities.
