The province is looking at supporting doctor-assisted death.
The proposed rules come after the federal government passed legislation for doctor-assisted dying back in June.
Legislation introduced by Ontario’s Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins would protect doctors from being sued for providing medically-assisted death, except in claims involving alleged negligence.
It would also ensure benefits and life insurance payout’s can’t be denied only because of doctor-assisted death.
Hoskins says the government is also planning to set up a service to help patients and caregivers access information and services for doctor-assisted death.
