Province Reaches Resource Revenue Sharing Agreement With First Nations

The provincial government has signed a resource revenue sharing agreement with area First Nations.

It deals with money generated from the mining and forest industry.

Grand Council Treaty #3, Wabun Tribal Council and Mushkegowuk Council will be able to share 45% of government revenues from a variety of forestry and mining taxes.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says the agreement will actually cover a total of 32 first nations or first nation organizations.

“This agreement is important. Resource revenue sharing is something that we’ve had a conversation with first nations across the province. We recognize that we need to continue to work with first nations to come up with agreements that are fair”.
