The Ministry of Natural Resources isn’t about to change the way it handles nuisance bears.
There have been suggestions that trapping bears and taking them far away into the bush will help ease the problem, but Minister Bill Mauro says studies don’t support the practice.
Mauro says science has been pretty clear that it’s not a fair and effective tool.
As well, Mauro says police will still be asked to handle bear calls saying it’s the most appropriate first response.
