The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board Four Directions aboriginal program has received national attention.
The Globe and Mail has published an in-depth feature on the success of the initiative and how it has helped Indigenous youth.
The program is offered in Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Kenora and will be launched in Red Lake in September.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says it really highlights the dedication of his staff.
Monteith says there are a lot of kids that develop relationships with teachers that probably keeps them in school and moves them to graduation.
He notes in some cases their instructors probably save some lives.
He stresses the front-line staff go home at night that wear the lives of their kids.
One of those teachers is Kieran McMonagle, who runs the Four Directions initiative at Dryden High School.
She was highlighted in the Globe and Mail story that can be viewed by visiting the link below.
