Staff and school principals are now going over the latest provincial test results with a fine tooth comb.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is reviewing the results from the recent Grade 3 and 6 literacy and math tests.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says they are always looking to improve.
Monteith says their concerns are consistent with the concerns of the Ministry of Education.
The latest figures from the Education Quality and Accountability Office show that one in five Grade 6 students in the province did not meet the provincial math standard.
Monteith says lagging math skills in elementary schools is a trend that has been ongoing over the past couple of years.
Provincial tests show struggles in numeric skills but also indicates that literacy skills are improving.
The local results won’t be made public until next month as they are embargoed across Ontario.
