As many as one third of students attending school locally have mental health problems.
That includes symptoms such anxiety and depression.
Keewatin-Patricia District School Board Superintendent Sean Monteith says the Board is currently working on a Children Mental Health Strategy.
Patricia Center for Children and Youth and the Lake of the Woods Child Development Center are involved in the strategy.
The goals of the Mental Health strategy include training for school staff who work with the students on a daily basis and addressing the stigma of mental health issues in the classroom and at home.
Monteith says they will also be holding a conference in May with 20 other agencies in the region.
