Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty says he’s pleased to see that Kenora MP Greg Rickford is the new man heading up FedNor.
The NDP member says it will be nice to have someone from the northwest in charge of northern Ontario’s economic development program.
Rafferty believes Rickford will be much more approachable than former Minister Tony Clement.
Ontario Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle is also pleased with the appointment of Rickford to FedNor.
The Liberal says he’s worked closely with Rickford on many issues in the past and he’s excited about future opportunities.
Gravelle believes both sides will be able to sit down and discuss economic opportunities in the north.
He also believes Rickford is a good fit for the Ring of Fire development.
Thunder Bay Independent MP Bruce Hyer is taking a different approach to Rickford’s appointment.
Hyer says Rickford got the job because he was a “yes man for Prime Minister Harper”, rather than fighting for his constituents.
