The population of Red Lake dropped by more than 11 percent in the past five years and that is cause for concern for the municipality.
Results of the 2001 Census released this week show Red Lake now has just over 42-hundred people.
Red Lake Mayor Dunc Wilson believes a number of factors are involved in the drop including cuts to the forestry sector and federal/provincial government services and says the mining industry has become more mechanized.
However, Wilson is trying to remain optimistic and says the mining industry could bring more possibilities especially since a lot of exploration is going on in the area.
