Reduction in Funds for Public School Board

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has been hit with a $1.2-million reduction in funds from the Provincial Government.
Funding has been cut in native studies, special education, transportation, professional development, operations as well as classroom computers.
Capital funding for 2011-2012 will include just over 1-million dollars for facility improvements.
Superintendent of Business Dean Carrie admits balancing the 2011-2012 budget will be a challenge.
Carrie notes they will have to look at all areas, noting its tough to deal with a reduction of this size without looking at staffing in some of their areas.
He hopes to have the budget ready for Trustees on May 24th, with final approval on June 14th.
