Ontario Firefighters, including 4 from this Region, are lending a helping hand to their Minnesota colleagues.
Crews are helping with a controlled burn of the Superior National Forest, which was devastated after a windstorm in 1999.
MNR Information Officer Mitch Miller says the storm knocked down thousands of hectares of trees, creating a major fire hazard.
Miller says the Northwestern Ontario crews are highly experienced in large prescribed burns and they will act as mentors.
Miller adds the partnership is beneficial as the MNR will likely need their help down the road to fight wildfires.
