Rental Scam Hits Region

Provincial Police are warning local residents about a scam going around.
Police say they have received numerous reports about the “rental scam.”
Typically it relates to someone posing as a landlord through an online ad and requests a prospective renter to wire money as a deposit.
In some cases the fraudsters even have the forms and contacts from legitimate businesses.
Some signs of a possible fraud include a landlord being out of the country, a very low price for rent, pressure to make the deposit, and deposits that will only be accepted by wire transfer.
