The first Air Canada Tango departure from Thunder Bay to Toronto had an inauspicious start Tuesday.
Just minutes into the flight, while the plane was over Lake Superior, many of the 49-passengers heard a clunking or rattling sound with the number one right engine.
The engine was shut down and the plane made a sweeping turn back toward Thunder Bay International Airport, where it landed safely.
Some passengers said there was no panic aboard the plane but many were definitely afraid.
The jet had undergone an extensive annual checkup in January.
Its expected the aircraft will be back in service Wednesday.
